Description
Maximum I/O Density. Minimum Cabinet Space.
SfAR-S Slim Modbus I/O Modules are compact, high-density I/O expansion devices designed for industrial and building automation systems. The “S” stands for slim, reflecting their narrow form factor, which allows a large number of modules to be installed in limited cabinet space—an important advantage in modern control panels where space must be shared with equipment such as PLCs, inverters, and power components.
Flexible Communication for Scalable Systems
The SfAR-S series operates using Modbus RTU/ASCII over RS485, one of the most widely adopted communication standards in automation. Up to 128 devices can be connected on a single bus, making the modules ideal for distributed systems. With the addition of a dedicated Modbus RTU to Modbus TCP/IP gateway, data from RS485 networks can be easily transmitted over Ethernet to higher-level systems such as PLCs, Supervisors, or SCADA platforms.
These modules are designed as a perfect I/O extension for controllers, enabling flexible system expansion with a wide range of module types offering different I/O configurations. The series includes multiple variants (6–16 I/O per module), allowing precise matching to application requirements.
Fast Installation. Effortless Commissioning.
A key feature of the SfAR-S modules is their ease of installation and configuration. A built-in mini USB port enables initial configuration without the need for external power, using the SfAR Configurator tool. DIP switches allow quick assignment of Modbus addresses and restoration of factory settings, simplifying replacement and enabling plug-and-play commissioning in case of device failure.
The modules feature opto-isolation between I/O, power supply, and communication interfaces, ensuring reliable operation and protection in demanding industrial environments. LED indicators provide clear status information for inputs and outputs.
Installation is further simplified with the Quick Connector system (SfAR-S-LINK), which uses flat ribbon cables to distribute power and RS485 communication across multiple modules. This allows up to 10 devices to be connected together quickly, reducing wiring time and complexity. Different module types within the SfAR-S family can be combined within the same ribbon connection.
